The President’s State of the Union address intended to give people an update on what has been achieved and what still remains to be done. But an election year back, TV appearances before Congress cannot avoid is viewed as a sale to the nation for four years, and on Tuesday night (January 24), the third in his speech, President Obama laid out his vision for the future should he get a job again in November.
Touching on everything from education reform for the call to revive American manufacturing, clean energy, immigration reform and a return to civility in Washington, Obama discussed his success while challenging his followers of the Republic to pave the way for more opportunities for the middle class who have been hit hard by lingering economic uncertainty and unemployment.
Obama opened by reminding voters that he recently welcomed home the last troops from Iraq and oversee the killings of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden and many of al Qaeda’s top Lieutenants. “Imagine what we can achieve if we follow their example,” he said, praising the soldiers United to work together and not shared with their personal ambitions.
In the week when the Megaupload site taken down, the President promised to stop piracy of American movies, music and software abroad. With tens of millions out of work, Obama also said he wanted to train 2 million workers with skills that will “lead directly to the job” through a partnership between the College and local businesses.
